2024-2025 | SEASON 2

Evergreen Ensemble is already taking new steps to extend our impact, to create new relationships with other local arts organizations, and to continue to establish our choir as one of the premiere choral ensembles in the region. Keep reading to learn more about our season, as well as how you can help us continue to grow and offer more to our community!

  • LITURGY

Our season begins with the magnificent and GRAMMY-nominated work, the "Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom", by American composer Benedict Sheehan. Drawing on the tradition of the great Russian liturgy settings by Rachmaninoff, Gretchaninov, and Tchaikovsky, this landmark work from Benedict is majestic, intimate, grand, mystical, and everything in between. We will be joined by basso profundo, Glenn Miller, and will feature solo performances from bass Jason Thoms, baritone Harrison Hintzsche, and mezzo Sarra Sharif Doyle.

  • CHRISTMAS

It's Evergreen Ensemble's first Christmas concert! We are thrilled to make our first contribution to one of choral music's most beloved seasons. Come hear iconic choral Christmas classics from composers like Morten Lauridsen, Norman Luboff, and John Gardner, as well as newer works from Ola Gjeilo, Sarah Quartel, Jessica French, and many more! Join us, and help us create a new holiday tradition for our region.

  • REQUIEM

We'll close our concert season with a program that pairs Dale Trumbore's "How to Go On" with Herbert Howell's timeless "Requiem". These two works for a cappella choir are each tied to the death of a loved one for either the librettist or composer, and offer unique musical perspectives on the process of grief and acceptance that follows such a loss. Come hear both an established masterwork, as well as a landmark work from an up and coming composer.

NEW COLLABORATIONS THIS SEASON!

  • We will be partnering with the Seattle Children’s for our Christmas concert program in December! Founded in 1989 a community-based program that would provide a high level of choral training and experience for interested young musicians, SCC has established itself as one of the premiere children and youth choral organizations in the region. With a number of SCC alumni on our roster, including Artistic Director David Hendrix, this collaboration is incredibly special. Evergreen will be joined by Camerata, a high school aged mixed voice ensemble, for both our 12/13 and 12/15 concerts, and singers from Evergreen will also join SCC for their December concert program, Boundless Sky, on December 14 at 5:00pm.

  • Founded this year by renowned baroque violinist Tekla Cunningham, The Seattle Bach Festival will serve the Seattle area with great performances of the masterworks of JS Bach and pearls of the Baroque. From large scale works like Oratorios, Cantatas and Passions to the chamber music and solo works, SBF will offer a portal into a world of beauty, passion, joy, learning and community. Evergreen Ensemble is thrilled to be joining SBF as their choir in residence for cantata projects in January and May of 2025, and we are already looking ahead to next season. It is a thrill and honor to be a part of this organization’s inaugural season, and we look forward to a long and generative relationship with SBF for years to come!
